FIRST ANIMATED GIF SENT INTO DEEP SPACE -------------------------------- Performance (2013) -------------------------------- I was invited by Dr. Jacob Haqq-Misra to be one of the first participants to submit a message to the Lone Signal METI (Messaging Extra Terrestrial Intelligence) experiment. My message will be part of the first beam into deep space on Tuesday 18th June and will consist of an animated GIF. Lone Signal's first interstellar target is Gliese 526 and is 17.6 light years from the Earth. Gliese 526 is identified as a potentially habitable solar system in The Catalog of Nearby Habitable Systems. This system’s position in the sky, as well as its relatively close proximity to the Earth, makes it an ideal choice as Lone Signal’s first target. People from Gliese 526 will be able to see "Humans watching Digital Art" in 17.6 years. -------------------------------- Many thanks to Serious Business, Lone Signal, Jamesburg Earth Station Technologies, Blue Marble Space Institute of Science, Dr. Jacob Haqq-Misra & Dr. Michael W. Busch. -------------------------------- Kim Asendorf http://kimasendorf.com/first-gif-sent-into-deep-space/
